The City of Foley celebrated Arbor Day on Feb. 24 in front of the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermans market. The event lasted from 1 – 2 p.m., with a presentation beforehand talking about the purpose behind Arbor Day, and Foley’s history of being recognized as a Tree City for the past 37 years. The Boy Scouts were present to help hand out the six different trees offered by the city, one per household, and it didn’t take long for lines to fill up and the trees to be handed out. Arbor Day helps promote green communities, and the City of Foley dedicated three trees to prominent members of the community who have passed away: J.M. Lee, Patsy Trawick Brackin, and Sidney Paul Kaiser. The trees will be planted in the community in their honor.
