Perfect weekend for 49th Annual Art in the Park
After canceling the 2020 Art in the Park due to COVID-19 concerns, this year saw a return with the 49th Annual Art in the Park over Mother’s Day Weekend. With sunshine and beautiful weather greeting newcomers and regulars alike, this year saw a successful return of the beloved event. Tents filled Heritage Park in Foley as crafters and artists came from all over the southeast. Vendors sold handmade pottery, artwork, woodwork, crafts, jewelry, and much more. Balloons rise over Foley during 17th Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival
The 17th Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival, hosted by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, returned this year after canceling in 2020 due to COVID-19. For the first time in the event’s history it took place at a new location, setting up at OWA for the extended three-day festival. Foley applies for grant for intersection improvement project
The City of Foley has applied for a grant through the House Committee on Appropriations. The committee recently was accepting community funding project requests. Foley’s request is for intersection improvements at Foley Beach Express and Miflin. The city has asked for one million dollars to go towards the project. “We looked at a lot of different projects and a lot of thought went into this,” said Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich. “We’re competing with all the other cities in Baldwin and Mobile Counties.” Read more at GulfCoastNewsToday.com.
Foley Beautification and Revitalization Committee presents beautification awards
Every year, the Foley Beautification and Revitalization Committee presents awards to three businesses. The award winners are chosen by committee members after careful consideration and review of efforts made by businesses to touch up, renovate, and/or add landscaping to their businesses. “The committee works very hard to choose these awards,” said Mayor Ralph Hellmich. Foley Public Library is opening more than books! Did you know that the Foley Public Library has 28 computers for public use? Governor Ivey Announces COVID-19 Public Health Order and State of Emergency to End
MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey on Monday announced that Alabama’s COVID-19 public health order will end Monday, May 31, 2021, and the state of emergency will end Tuesday, July 6, 2021. “For over a year now, Alabamians, like people around the globe, have made sacrifices and adjusted to a temporary ‘new normal.’ We have learned much since last year, and this is absolutely now a managed pandemic. Southwestern District Public Health Departments offer free walk-in COVID-19 clinics, appointments not required
County health departments in the Southwestern Public Health District will offer free walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations without appointments beginning May 3. Appointments are still available for eligible individuals and may be made by visiting https://alcovidvaccine.gov/. The Moderna vaccine will be given to people age 18 and older. Snook Family YMCA begins interior demolition, moving towards construction phase
Throughout Baldwin County, construction has been slow going since Hurricane Sally devastated the area in September 2020. The Snook Family YMCA has felt these complications as well. The building was left in shambles after Sally tore off patches of the roof and water flooded down nearly every inch of the interior. While the exterior hid the inner destruction, once you stepped inside the impact was immediate. The building had to be gutted following the storm.
