Public Works

The public works department provides maintenance of right of ways, mowing, maintenance of streets and ditches.

The street department and the sanitation department are divisions of the public works department. The street department also replaces and repairs traffic and street signs, repairs potholes and washouts, installs culverts and drainage pipes, and trims trees (limbs must not be anywhere near power lines). The sanitation department handles all of the city’s garbage and recycling needs.

The street department will maintain, mow and clean drainage ditches on the right of way.

Who puts up traffic and street signs that are damaged or missing?
The street department will put up and repair existing street and stop signs within the City of Foley.

Who is responsible for tree limbs on right of way that are hanging into the street?
The street department will trim tree limbs on the right of way as long as they are not in or near power lines.

Who installs culverts for a homeowner if they request it?
The street department will install a culvert for a resident, but the resident pays for the pipe.

What if I do not want the city to mow my right of way?
