Foley announces Christmas Tree decoration winners
FOLEY – Winners of the annual Christmas Tree Decoration Contest were announced Friday, Dec. 8, during the Christmas in the Park celebration held at Heritage Park in Foley. A total of 15 trees were decorated by local businesses and community organizations. Mayor Ralph Hellmich announced the winners before the lighting of the city Christmas Tree. Foley Christmas season hits full swing
FOLEY – Santa Claus came to town in Foley over the weekend as the city held its Christmas in the Park, Christmas Parade and Let It Snow celebrations. Events were rescheduled from the previous weekend after rain was forecast to sweep through the area on Dec. 1 and 2. Santa’s mailbox opens in Heritage Park
FOLEY – Children wanting to send a letter to Santa Claus have a special mailbox in Foley’s Heritage Park that provides a direct line to the North Pole. The box is now taking letters near the Foley Christmas Tree in the park. If a child includes a return address, Santa will often respond. Children wanting a response should have their letters in the mailbox by Dec. 20. A second mailbox is also located in the Foley Public Library.
Foley seeking input for strategic plan
FOLEY – Planners want to know what residents feel are the biggest challenges and opportunities for Foley as the city continues to grow and develop over the next five years. The city of Foley is developing a strategic plan to prepare for the continued growth expected in the community. As part of the effort, residents, members of the business community and other stakeholders are being asked to take part in a survey and public meetings to gather information for the plan. Tree work planned today on Pride Drive
FOLEY -- City crews will be pruning trees today on the right of way on Pride Drive between South Pine Street and Alabama 59 and along U.S. 98 between South Cypress Street and South Juniper Street. No lanes are planned to be closed, but some delays are possible for drivers on those roads.
Christmas events planned this week in Foley
FOLEY – While rain delayed events last weekend, Santa Claus is coming to Foley on Friday to help start the holiday season. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said two days of celebration are planned in downtown Foley this weekend. “On Friday, we have our Christmas in the Park, where we'll do our official lighting of the tree since it wasn’t done last weekend. Foley finances considered for more national recognition
FOLEY – The city of Foley is under consideration for another major national recognition of its financial reporting. Foley is being considered for its fifth consecutive Distinguished Budget Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The recognition is one of the three awards the city has received from the GFOA for financial reporting. Foley has received 10 consecutive Annual Comprehensive Financial Report Awards for its audit report and three consecutive Popular Annual Financial Report Awards for the city’s condensed financial summary. Foley recognizes police K-9 teams
FOLEY – The city of Foley is celebrating its police dog teams and K-9 units from across the country that came to the city as part of a national competition. On Monday, Dec. 4, the Foley City Council recognized the Police Department units that helped organize and take part in the United States Police Canine Association National Field Trials. The competition was held in Foley in September. Firefighter Taylor completes smoke diver course
FOLEY – Foley Firefighter Lee Taylor has successfully completed the smoke diver training course designed to help firefighters sharpen their existing skills and learn new techniques through realistic training that will assist them throughout their career. The challenging five-day course includes multiple aspects of firefighting. Students participate in physically and mentally taxing exercises in multiple environments. Each day begins with a fitness event, which is followed by drills, field evolutions and scenarios that include heat, smoke and live fire training.
