The Foley City Council will meet at 4 p.m. on Jan. 18 in council chambers in City Hall. During the joint work/regular session, the council on Jan. 18 will discuss: Approving a resolution requesting permission to solicit bids for a resurfacing project in the downtown area in an estimated $769,033 cost. The city will pay Sawgrass Consulting $145,020 for professional services related to the project. City of Foley applying for SAFER Grant Program for 9 new firefighters
During the Jan. 3 meeting, the Foley City Council approved staff to apply for DHS/FEMA's FY2021 SAFER (staffing for adequate fire and emergency response) grant program. If awarded, the grant would pay 100% of the salaries for nine new firefighters for three years. The City of Foley would take over the salaries during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. Foley council approves applications for Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
The Foley City Council approved two grant applications for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) during the Dec. 20 meeting. Both grant applications were presented to Baldwin EMA as potential projects that, if awarded, would be funded by the mitigation funds. Gateway Initiative team gives overview of 2021 progress
The Gateway Initiative team held an investor breakfast at The Port at The Wharf on Tuesday, Dec. 14 to discuss the strides being made in local workforce development. The initiative, a collaboration between the South Baldwin Chamber and the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, is a 5-year capital project designed to help the community’s workforce, education and local businesses, and to forge strong bonds and partnerships between other chambers and municipalities. Foley city offices closed Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Day
Most City of Foley offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. City hall, the Foley Public Library, the Foley Welcome Center, Foley’s Railroad Museum and Model Train Exhibit, the Holmes Medical Museum and the Interpretive Center at Graham Creek Nature Preserve, in addition to most city departments, will close for the day. Local cities set to receive opioid settlement money
Alabama will soon get a big payout. The drug company, Endo Pharmaceuticals has settled with the state for $25 million. It was one of the drug manufacturers sued over the opioid crisis. Some of that money will soon become available locally. The city of Foley, for example, is hearing they may be getting upwards of $30,000 of that settlement. Julio Jones Sends Christmas Spirit Home
One of Foley’s most famous sons sent the Christmas spirit home yesterday with a truckload of gifts for children in the community. Tennessee Titans wide receiver Julio Jones teamed up with two major names in the hip hop music industry, Lil Baby and Polow Da Don, to organize a Christmas giveaway at Aaronville Park in Foley yesterday afternoon.
