ROAD CLOSURE: E. Michigan Ave.

E. Michigan Ave. between S. Juniper St. and S. Pecan St. will be closed Friday, October 1st 6:30AM until 6:00PM, weather permitting. Barricades (marked in yellow) will be set up making this portion of E. Michigan Ave. closed to through traffic. The areas in red will be closed, however they will be directing traffic into and out of the apartment complex as needed.  The blue box shows the work site where R & S Paving will be paving.

Foley names senior managers

Area growth has led to the creation of two new senior management positions at the city of Foley. Two long-term city managers have been installed into positions that were created to allow for more flexibility and better utilization of skills among like departments. “The executive director positions are intended to implement a senior management team sufficient to cover the continued and accelerating growth of the city,” according to Mike Thompson, city administrator. Foley council approves FY22 budget

The Foley council has approved the FY22 budget, one Mayor Ralph Hellmich called “balanced.” “It’s fiscally conservative yet it is aggressive in many ways,” said Hellmich. “We’re adopting quite a few projects, hiring new personnel because of the growth of the city, and I think in discussions with all of the council we all recognized that the growth of our area demands that we do things to keep up for our quality of life.” Hellmich said creating the FY22 budget was challenging due to all the uncertainty of 2020 and 2021. Foley Art Center to host Oct. 2 membership pop up art show

The Foley Art Center will host a Pop Up Local Arts & Crafts Show on Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Art Center’s gallery in historic downtown Foley from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and vendors will be social distancing. Foley city offices closed for Labor Day

In observance of Labor Day, non-essential City of Foley offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, reopening on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The normally scheduled City Council meeting will be moved to Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 4 pm in the Foley Civic Center. Monday’s recycle route will be picked up on Tuesday, along with the regular Tuesday route on Sept. 7. The pickup schedule for the remainder of the week is not affected. Limbs/yard debris/bulk pickups will resume. Sanitation Schedule

City of Foley offices, other than health and public safety, will be closed on Monday, Aug. 30

City of Foley offices, other than health and public safety, will be closed on Monday, Aug. 30. Mayor Ralph Hellmich made the decision based upon the likelihood of excessive rain throughout the day on Monday that could cause flooding, as well as with Baldwin County schools being closed. This Monday closing will affect a recycling route. Monday recycling will be picked up along with Tuesday recycling on Tuesday. Limb and bulk pickup will resume on Tuesday.  At of Sunday evening, no electrical outages or road closures have been reported in Foley.

Ahead of Hurricane Ida's anticipated landfall, Governor Ivey is issuing a state of emergency for Alabama's coastal and western counties. The state of emergency is effective at 2:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time. Foley Main Street awarded AARP Community Grant to bring music to downtown Foley

Recently, AARP Alabama awarded four Alabama organizations the 2021 Community Challenge grant. “The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements to communities that jump-start long-term change,” from a release from AARP. “It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages.
