Foley begins exploring options for new library

Foley is starting the process of building a new library on city-owned property near downtown with the hope of beginning construction sometime in 2023. At the Oct. 18 work session, the council discussed several service proposals including getting ADEM approval for the site, geotechnical and topographical surveys and architecture services. Foley council sponsors Foley Kiwanis Club, Baldwin Heart Walk

The Foley council voted to sponsor both the Foley Kiwanis Club and the Baldwin Heart Walk during the Oct. 4 council meeting. Councilmembers voted to allot an annual recurring sponsorship of $1,500 to the Foley Kiwanis Club and a one-time sponsorship worth $1,500 to the Baldwin Heart Walk. Previously, the city of Foley contributed to the Foley Kiwanis Club annually, with $500 built into the city’s budget. Foley mayor reveals “Vision for the Future” of growing city

There are big things in the works for the city of Foley. Gulf Coast communities receive money for preservation, improvement

Mobile and Baldwin counties are getting $41 million through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act. Oil Producing Regions share 37.5 percent of the revenue from oil and gas leases in the Gulf under GOMESA. These funds go toward sewer and land improvements. Communities like Dauphin Island, Daphne, Mobile, Dauphin Island and Foley will all benefit this year. Jeff Collier is the mayor of Dauphin Island. He said GOMESA funds will be used to renovate a boat ramp and revitalize a marsh on Dauphin Island. Read more on www.apr.org.

Thankful for Hometown Heroes

Foley Public Library and Foley Main Street are hosting a “Thankful for Hometown Heroes” scavenger hunt starting on Saturday, Nov 13 through Saturday, Nov 20, 2021.  Come to the library to pick up a scavenger hunt sheet or download the Distrix app on your phone to access businesses participating in this hunt. Story Time is back live and in person at the Foley Public Library!  Beginning on Tuesday, Nov 2nd and Wednesday, Nov 3rd at 10 am, the Foley Public Library will once again have an in-house Story Time program.  Wednesday is a repeat of Tuesday’s program. Foley Climbs to New Heights with Forestry Competition

Competition in Foley will reach new heights this weekend as the Alabama Urban Forestry Association (AUFA) hosts the annual Alabama Tree Climbing Competition at the Coast Alabama Farmers and Fishermans Market (CAFFM) October 15 -17. The competition goes hand in hand with the AUFA Annual Conference being held this week. The conference educates participants from around the state and beyond on subjects such as pesticide safety and vegetation management. Foley Public Library hosts lots of Halloween events

Foley Public Library has three exciting late October happenings. Lots of events to get you in the mood for Halloween! • On Sat, Oct 23rd, 4-6 pm, the library will host its annual Halloween Extravaganza, but this year it is a drive-thru event. Maps for the special route can be acquired at the library during regular business hours. Come with your children and let them gather goodies from library staff and sponsors. Foley Kids Park renovations planned

City officials announced that the Foley Kids Park will be undergoing minor renovations beginning this week. The park was built in March 2001 by volunteers and funded by donations from area residents. The park has provided years of service for Foley’s youngest residents. Recently, the city recognized that it is time for restoration and repairs to keep it safe. A part of the fund-raising efforts at that time the park was built included handprints on tiles to recognize the donors.
