Recently, AARP Alabama awarded four Alabama organizations the 2021 Community Challenge grant. “The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements to communities that jump-start long-term change,” from a release from AARP. “It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages. Head to OWA on Saturday, September 4th for the fourth annual OWA Labor Day Car Show followed by a concert, kid’s activities and fireworks to close out the night. ADPH recommends additional COVID-19 vaccine doses for certain people with weakened immune systems
People with weakened immune systems are now eligible for an additional dose of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine following a primary mRNA vaccine series to help prevent serious and possibly life-threatening COVID-19. Foley approves resolution amending city’s fund balance policy
During the Aug. 2 council meeting, the City of Foley council approved a resolution to amend the city’s fund balance policy. Foley’s Fire Chief Joey Darby recognized as state Fire Chief of the Year
Chief Joey Darby of the Foley Fire Department was recognized as Fire Chief of the Year for the State of Alabama by the Alabama Association of Fire Chiefs. The award was given at the annual meeting in Orange Beach on Aug. 10. Darby has served as the Fire Chief of the City of Foley since January 5, 2009. Previously, he served the City of Auburn Fire Division from 1994 until coming to Foley, having worked through the ranks to Battalion Chief.
