FOLEY – Train rides scheduled for Thursday, June 29, at the Foley Depot Museum have been canceled due to expected excessive heat.

The rides aboard the Charles Ebert Jr. Express take place each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the Foley Depot Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Thursday, June 29, heat index values were predicted to be as much as 112 degrees, according to U.S. Weather Service reports.

The Charles Ebert Jr. Express is driven by a dedicated group of volunteers who make the popular ride possible. City staff members also assist in loading the cars.The rides require drivers and staff members to work several hours each day when the event takes place.

In the interest of the safety of all those operating the train, city officials decided that the rides would not take place. Officials will monitor weather predictions before deciding if the rides will resume Saturday.

Rides are free for children and adults, but donations are accepted.
