FOLEY – Foley’s popular downtown lighting program is growing as the city prepares to add more illuminated outlines to historic buildings.

The Foley City Council has approved the purchase of additional lighting for the second phase of the project, which highlights the architectural silhouettes of buildings in the downtown area.

The first phase, completed in early 2025, placed lighting along Laurel Avenue. The project quickly became a favorite among residents and visitors, with many downtown business owners requesting to join the program.

“These are the downtown building lights that we’ve come to be familiar with,” said Taylor Davis, Foley city engineer. “They’re a hit. These are for additional buildings.”

The city first purchased the custom lighting in 2024. Business owners installed the fixtures, which include automatic sensors that turn on at sunset and off at sunrise. The design emphasizes each building’s shape and features without altering the character of Foley’s historic downtown.

The new purchase will allow more buildings to be included in the program and will also replace some of the original lighting where needed.

The expansion is part of Foley’s ongoing efforts to enhance the beauty and nighttime appeal of the downtown area.
