FOLEY – Downtown Foley will shine even brighter as the city expands its popular tree lighting initiative with the addition of more LED halo lights in the heart of the community.
The Foley City Council has approved the next phase of the project, which will add ambient lighting to oak trees along Orange Avenue and Alston Street, as well as in front of the Foley Public Library.
Mayor Ralph Hellmich said this phase continues the city’s long-term effort to enhance downtown’s beauty and walkability, especially after dark.
“These tree lighting projects bring a warm, inviting atmosphere to downtown,” Hellmich said. “We’re proud of our beautiful oak trees, and the LED halo lighting highlights their structure without using much electricity—unlike the old spotlights that consumed a lot more power.”
The LED halo lights are installed in rings within the trees, directing light downward to softly illuminate the branches and surrounding walkways. In addition to their aesthetic appeal, the elevated fixtures are less prone to damage or vandalism than ground-based lights.
The new installations will light trees at three corners of the intersection of South Alston Street and West Orange Avenue. Additional lights will also be added near the Foley Public Library, building on previous lighting work completed along East Laurel Avenue, including the area in front of City Hall.
This latest phase reflects Foley’s continued investment in creating a vibrant, safe, and welcoming downtown environment for residents and visitors alike.
