FOLEY – The City of Foley is increasing the availability of downtown parking with the purchase of a key property at the intersection of Alabama 59 and U.S. 98.

The Foley City Council recently approved the acquisition of the lot located near the southwest corner of this major intersection. The site, which has been leased by the city for public parking for several years, sits between the Foley Medical Museum and the Community Development building.

“This is the parking lot on the west side of Highway 59, south of the Medical Museum,” said City Administrator Mike Thompson. “We’ve leased this property for many years, and now we have the opportunity to purchase it. The property owner has agreed to the sale.”

Mayor Ralph Hellmich emphasized the importance of securing long-term public access to the lot.

“This lot is essential for downtown businesses and visitors,” Hellmich said. “Parking along 59 and 98 can be very limited, so securing this property ensures we continue to provide convenient access. Plus, it will save the city money in the long run.”

The purchase supports Foley’s ongoing efforts to enhance the downtown experience for residents, merchants, and visitors.
