Children starting out on the road to reading have a new resource on their journey with the Foley Public Library’s latest program.

The library is launching its newest resource in the Children’s Area: the “First Reader” book section.

This collection supports the earliest stages of reading development. The resource establishes a strong foundation and build a lifelong love for books.

The “First Reader” section is a dedicated space featuring high-quality, foundational reading materials chosen to build skills and confidence. The collection includes popular and effective early literacy series such as:

  • First Little Readers: Short, engaging books ideal for beginning sight-word recognition.
  • Phonics Makes Readers: Resources focused on teaching the sounds of letters and blends.
  • Eric Carle My First Phonics Books and Eric Carle My First Sight Words Book: Utilizing Eric Carle’s iconic art to teach both decoding and high-frequency words.
  • DK Super Phonics: Structured phonics books that combine clear learning with engaging topics.
