FOLEY – A paved extension, walking trail and drainage improvements are among the improvements planned for Pilgrim Street in Foley.
New plans for the project include covered culverts in the place of open ditches and paving portions of the street that is now dirt. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the work will also provide residents in the area with new walkways.
“This will be coming off of Michigan Avenue and going northward, and it will end up at Beulah Park, so it will complete a circuit in Beulah that allows people to have the sidewalk,” Hellmich said.
In addition to the street extension, the project also includes a walking trail through a wooded area near Beulah Park. The route of the walkway is planned to avoid the removal of large oaks in the area.
Once you get to the next street, it will convert to a trail that will go through these giant trees up to the park,” Hellmich said. “It’s a good project. The residents in Beulah have wanted this road for quite a while.”
The mayor said city crews have been working to improve drainage in the area for about two years.
“It’s probably one of the major road projects we’ll be doing this year,” Hellmich said.
