FOLEY – As part of an effort to beautify streets and improve Foley, planners and city officials  will meet with residents to discuss improvements in several downtown locations.

Foley is conducting a streetscape study for the downtown area. As part of the study, the city will conduct street focus groups to get public input on the design and appearance of several streets in the area.

Residents and business owners on those streets are asked to come to one of a series of meetings to talk about their opinions of their streets and what they would like to see in those areas.

The city will hold six focus groups on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the Foley Civic Center to discuss specific streets.

The schedule for the 45-minute meetings will be:

Tuesday, Aug. 6

  • West Myrtle Avenue, 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
  • West Verbena Avenue, 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.
  • South Chicago Street, from West Laurel Avenue to Myrtle Street, 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 7

  • Alston Street, from Jessamine South to Verbena, 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
  • West Jessamine Avenue, 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
  • West Orange Avenue, 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.

The city will also conduct an Open House on Friday, Aug. 9 starting at 10:30 a.m. to discuss and share the results of the focus groups.
