FOLEY – Foley continues to expand its network of sidewalks, with new improvements planned along Alabama 59.
The Foley City Council has approved a proposal to survey and design the next section of sidewalk along the highway, extending from East Orchid Avenue north to East Section Avenue. The new walkway will connect to an area near the Foley Justice Center and the Baldwin County Satellite Courthouse.
Once the design is complete, the Foley Street Department will present the construction plans to the City Council for funding approval.
The city has allocated $1 million for sidewalk projects during the current fiscal year. Construction is already underway to extend sidewalks on North Cedar Street north to West Peachtree Avenue.
City officials are also working with property owners in the Mills community in west Foley to acquire rights of way for additional sidewalks. Plans call for those sidewalks to connect eastward to Cedar Street and continue along Peachtree Avenue, linking with walkways on Alabama 59 and other parts of the city.
These projects are part of Foley’s ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian access and connectivity throughout the community.
