FOLEY – Sidewalk extensions along Cedar and Hickory streets are among the items on the Foley City Council agenda for Monday, Aug. 5.

The council work session and meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Foley City Hall.

The council is scheduled to vote on appropriating funding for the first phase of the Cedar Street sidewalk project. The project will extend sidewalks on Cedar to Fern Avenue. 

An upcoming second phase of the Cedar Street project will continue construction from Fern Avenue to Peachtree Avenue.

Also on the council agenda is a sidewalk extension project on Hickory Street. That project will connect sidewalks constructed using funds provided under a grant through the Transportation Alternative Program to existing walkways on River Trace on Hickory Street.

The council previously approved $1 million for sidewalk construction in the current city budget.

Other items on the council agenda include:

  • A public hearing to declare weeds to be a nuisance and to order its abatement on West Michigan Avenue.

  • Considering recommendations from the Foley Planning Commission on wayfinding signs.
  • The first reading of an ordinance giving Riviera Utilities consent to sell property to Baldwin County.
  • Amending an ordinance creating impact fees.
  • The second reading of an ordinance establishing an entertainment district in downtown Foley.
  • Replacing the T-hangar building door track and appropriating funds.
  • Reappointing Kenneth Underwood to the Museum Advisory Board.
  • Installing a new transformer and meter for additional soccer fields.
  • Reappointing Keith Jiskra to the Board of Adjustments and Appeals.
  • Reappointing Joshua Roberts to the Foley Revitalization and Beautification Advisory Board.
  • Approving a sponsorship to the South Baldwin Literacy Council on behalf of the Foley Public Library.
  • Amending the Street Department budget for sidewalk maintenance.
  • Authorizing the mayor to sign a letter of intent for the Street Department.
  • Purchasing a Ford Expedition from the state contract and amending the budget.
  • Authorizing employees to enter property on West Michigan Avenue to abate a public nuisance.
  • Authorizing employees to enter property on South Cedar Street to abate a public nuisance.
  • Memorializing the purchase of a pool pump and transferring funds from the operating account.
  • Approving solar lights at the intersection of North Pecan Street and Fern Avenue.
  • Amending the pay classification plan in the Municipal Complex.
  • Increasing the budget to inspect a T-28B airplane.
  • Moving forward with an emergency repair to the Post Office roof.
  • Setting a public hearing declaring weeds to be a public nuisance on Hickory Street and ordering its abatement.

  • Approving an additional services amendment proposal from Gonzalez-Strength for the design of a public road near the corner of the Foley Beach Express and Miflin Road.
  • Transferring budgeted capital project funds from IT and Revenue to the Capital Purchases Account for revenue and appropriating funds to purchase sales tax software.
  • Accepting Planning Commission subdivision regulation amendments.
  • Increasing operating funds in Nature Parks.
  • Approving a bid award for resurfacing and expanding the Event Center parking lot.
  • Transferring funds from operations to the Beulah Heights Park capital project.
  • Approving the use of Heritage Park for the 2024 Society of Black Hats Foley Witches Ride charity event and after party.
  • Waiving fees for the use of Heritage Park on Sept. 14, 2024 for the Well Church to host a back to school community event.
  • Waiving fees for the use of Heritage Park and pavilion for the Foley Lions Club LeTour De Foley 2024 bicycle ride.
