FOLEY – The municipal election season is underway in Alabama with one year to go until voters choose mayors and council members in most cities and towns throughout the state.
Municipal elections in Foley and other cities and towns will be held Aug. 26, 2025. In Foley, the office of mayor and the seats to represent the five City Council districts will be up for election. The term of office is four years.
In 2021, the Alabama Legislature extended the terms for municipal offices by one year so that elections would not be held the same year as presidential or state elections.
Starting Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, candidates for municipal offices can begin raising and spending money for election campaigns.
Some other dates on the election calendar include:
May 28, 2025 is the last day that a person can become a resident of the municipality or a district in order to become a candidate for office.
June 10, 2025 is the date that candidates can begin qualifying at city hall once notice is published.
June 24, 2025 is the last day to qualify to run for municipal office.
If a runoff election is needed for any office, that election will be held Sept. 23, 2025.
