FOLEY – Bids to build a new Foley Public Library, which will also serve as a community center is one of items on the agenda for the Foley City Council when it meets Monday, Nov. 18.

The council work session and meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Foley City Hall.

The city plans to build a new library next to the Foley Dog Park and south of the Post Office. The facility will be about twice the size of the current library and include features such as an expanded children’s area and multipurpose room.

Other items on the council agenda include:

  • Reports on bills for October 2024. 
  • Reports on tax revenue, Community Development, Police and Fire departments.
  • Declaring 14 acres of property surplus and authorizing its sale.
  • Amending a ground lease by Riviera Utilities.
  • Approving a restaurant retail liquor license for El Mezquite Mexican Grill on South McKenzie Street.
  • Approving the purchase of two John Deere gators for the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Purchasing a commercial grade dish sanitizer under the state contract and declaring the old unit surplus.
  • Approving the 2024 winter season fireworks shows at OWA.
  • Reappointing Otis Gatlin to the Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals.
  • Accepting a land donation from Hadley Village.
  • Approving monthly bids for October.
  • Accepting a Homeland Security Grant for the 2024 fiscal year.
  • Appointing a council representative to the Graham Creek Nature Preserve Advisory Board and the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
  • Approving the Highway 59 sidewalk from West Azalea Avenue to West Roosevelt Avenue and accepting the Capston Engineering Group’s professional services proposal.
  • Purchasing a surveillance video data storage appliance.
  • Recommending the purchase of additional traffic cameras and radar detection units and cellular communication equipment for three intersections on the Foley Beach Express.
  • Creating and recognizing landmark trees within the city of Foley.
