Due to the current situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Baldwin County Disaster Preparedness & Recovery Expo has been rescheduled from June 9, 2020 to August 5, 2020. The Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with our municipalities, volunteer agencies, and local partners are working together to hold the 2nd annual Baldwin County Preparedness & Recovery Expo at the Daphne Civic Center located at 2603 US Highway 98, Daphne. Foley decides to go forward with Farmers Market Road project
Foley council made the decision during its May meeting to return to the original plan of improving Farmers Market Road as opposed to extending Pecan Street. Earlier this year, Foley passed a resolution to increase and appropriate funds to connect Pride Drive North to South Pecan Street, while pushing back the planned Farmers Market Road project. At the time, Pecan Street had become a higher priority than Farmers Market Road due to OWA’s upcoming RV Park. 2020 is a municipal election year
Foley’s municipal elections will be held on Aug. 25 at the Foley Event Center, located at 1001 E. Pride Blvd. Each resident who lives within the Foley city limits will have the opportunity to vote for mayor and the council person who represents their district. The mayor is elected at large, meaning everyone votes for the mayoral position. Council representatives are elected by district, so residents in each district vote for only the council member who will represent their district. Foley reopens attractions based on state guidelines
Foley Mayor John Koniar is happy to announce that with the additional guidance from Gov. Ivey announced May 21, the following city services will be open to the public as listed below: The Holmes Medical Museum and the Foley Railroad Museum will open on Saturday, May 23, following 50% occupancy and social distancing guidelines. Rides on Foley’s event train around Heritage Park will resume on May 30. Foley’s Model Train Exhibit and Senior Center will reopen when safety modifications are completed at both locations. Governor Ivey Issues Amended Safer at Home Order
Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday issued an amended Safer at Home Order to be applied Statewide. The order which includes an expanded list of items to reopen will be effective Friday, May 22, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. and will expire on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. These update affect entertainment venues, athletic activities, educational institutions, child day care facilities and summer camps. Foley installing UV system in HVAC at Foley Event Center
Foley City Council voted to purchase and install UV lights for the HVAC at the Foley Event Center, the same system Trane Building Services uses within hospitals. The system is meant to provide a safer environment within the facility by helping to minimize viruses, molds, and bacteria. Foley Public Library to reopen on Monday, May 18
Mayor John Koniar announced today that the Foley Public Library will reopen on Monday, May 18, when it will resume its regular schedule. Restrooms in parks across the city, as well as the Comfort Station in the John B. Foley Park have been reopened. At this time, the Senior Center, city museums, train ride and Kids Park remain closed. Baldwin County fire crews on guard, urging caution amid state fire danger advisory
Fire departments in Baldwin County are on guard and are urging the public to be cautious as the state issued a Fire Danger Advisory Thursday. Gulf Shores Deputy Fire Chief Keith Martin said his crews are staying prepared to fight any brush fire as it happens. "You hear the term 'it's a tinder box.' Foley to implement spending reduction measures
With revenue numbers in for March and April, Foley officials have begun implementing spending reduction measures to try and meet the end-of-year budget. “With the events as they have progressed due to the pandemic, and with businesses shut down, it has a material effect on our revenue streams,” said City Administrator Mike Thompson. “The directorial staff have started analyzing all of that and we’ve put together a new year-end forecast based on what we believe we’re likely to hit in terms of our revenue streams and our expenses.” Read more...
