Baldwin residents ask, “What will happen with all this debris?”

All over Baldwin County, you can see FEMA debris management sites popping up. These sites, characterized by the mountains of debris and large trucks driving to and from the location, are the first stop for debris left behind by Hurricane Sally after being picked up from along the streets. Monday, Oct. 12 Update

Garbage Normal ally pickup resumed today. This is the last week of garbage collection by city quadrant. Normal (old) garbage routes will resume Monday, Oct. 19. Recycle routes are also set to resume on Monday, Oct. 19. Debris Today is day 20 for vegetative debris pickup in Foley. On Saturday, Oct. 9, there were 50 trucks in operation. Free materials for sandbags at Public Works Oct. 7

Update: Since 6 am this morning the 2,000 sandbags provided have already been used. Public Works has been able to get 900 more, but when these are gone, we are unable to get more bags. Sand is available if you can bring your own bags. You must bring your own shovel, and there is a limit of 10 bags per person. Please observe burn ban – a message from the Foley Fire Chief

As our weather continues to improve and storm debris is being gathered, the Foley Fire Department is asking all area residents and property owners to refrain from open burning for safety and compliance with the current burn ban. Baldwin County is one of 12 counties currently under the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) burn ban effective from May 1 through October 31 each year.  The purpose of this burn ban is to combat the formation of ground-level ozone and the generation of fine particulate matter during the warm weather months. Debris Removal Update

At the end of the day Thursday, Oct. 1, trucks had picked up 3,344 vegetative loads of debris in Foley. There were 45 trucks in operation that day. A total of 178,567 cubic yards of vegetative debris and 2,694 cubic yards of construction debris including drywall, carpet and furniture was collected. Trucks will make a first sweep across the city and then will return a second time to give homeowners longer to clean up their property. Foley Pairs With National Guard in Wake of Hurricane

The City of Foley has faced many challenges in 2020. Hurricane Sally was one challenge that won’t soon be forgotten by its residents. Luckily the City was able to pair with the C Company 1/173rd Infantry of the Army National Guard to assist numerous people without basic necessities. Foley set up a Point of Distribution (POD) site in the days after the storm to distribute ready-to-eat meals, water, tarps, and ice free of charge. The items were supplied by the federal government.
