HBLB cautions consumers for potential post-hurricane scams

In the wake of Hurricane Zeta, the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board (HBLB) cautions consumers of the potential for scams, fraud, and incompetent work during post-storm damage cleanup, repair, and rebuilding, and encourages consumers to use licensed home builders as required by law. Builders holding an unlimited license issued by the HBLB have passed a test and provided evidence of financial responsibility in order to obtain their license. Hurricane Zeta Aftermath

Hurricane Zeta left a few trees down in its wake, but there are no road closures or flooding.  The hurricane brought an average of 45 mph sustained winds with gusts of up to 60 mph to our area.  Garbage and recycling is being picked up  today. Normal yard debris/bulk is a little behind schedule, but also being collected.  Riviera Utilities reported about 15,000 customers without power during the storm. Mayor John Koniar honored

Foley Mayor John Koniar was honored at the Monday, Oct. 19 council meeting, his final meeting as mayor. Along with a proclamation for his time in service, a commendation from Governor Kay Ivey, a shadowbox created by city staff commemorating his public service, and speeches made by guests and councilmembers, the council approved a final surprise: naming a street in his honor. City office closure and garbage pick up

Good afternoon Foley, City offices (except for essential workers and emergency personnel) will close at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 28 and remain closed on Thursday, Oct. 29. Normal garage pickup is scheduled in Foley for Thursday, Oct. 29, and recycling will also be picked up if possible, depending on the weather. City updates will be posted on the city Municipal Government Facebook page, and WHEP Radio Baldwin 1310 AM, as needed. We encourage everyone to follow your hurricane plan and stay safe.

Monitoring Tropical Storm Zeta

The Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Zeta. Currently, Baldwin County is under a TROPICAL STORM WARNING, STORM SURGE WARNING, HIGH SURF WARNING and RIP CURRENT WARNING. A storm surge warning means that life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline is possible in our area in the next 36 hours. Debris Pick Up Update

It is understandable that residents are frustrated by debris that has not been picked up. Please be aware that contractors are working 6 days a week to collect it. On a daily basis, Foley has 40 to 50 of the huge double dump trucks working across the city, daily picking up over 300 loads collectively. Already, they have collected approximately 560,000 cubic yards of vegetative debris. That would cover 100 football fields, 3-feet high.  Or another way to look at it is to imagine Jordan Hare or Bryant Denny's single field covered 300 feet high [...]

W Azalea Ave Closure Sunday, November 1st

Asphalt Services Inc. will be doing road striping on W. Azalea Avenue, between S. Hickory St. and S. Cedar St. W. Azalea will be closed to thru traffic on Sunday, Nov. 1st from 7:00 a.m. until approximately 6:00 p.m. Residents will have access to their homes/property but, barricades and barrels will be in place.

Road Closure – S Pine Street Saturday, October 31st

Asphalt Services Inc. will be doing road striping on S. Pine Street from CR 20W to just before W. Pride Blvd. on Saturday, Oct. 31st starting at 7:00 a.m. until approximately 6:00 p.m. There will be flaggers so traffic will not be completely shut down, but please expect very minor delays.

Baldwin REALTORS® Foundation Receives Large Grant for Hurricane Relief

In the sudden adversity caused by Hurricane Sally, Baldwin REALTORS ® leadership formed a plan to help the devastated homeowners and renters of Baldwin County. What started as aiding through donations of non-perishables and generators has now turned into a newly formed non-profit foundation with a substantial grant of $200,000 to distribute in the community. The Baldwin REALTORS® Foundation received the National Association of REALTORS®’ (NAR) REALTORS® Relief Foundation Grant to assist anyone in the Baldwin County community who has suffered loss to a primary residence from the storm.
