Foley continues to exceed budgeted revenues
The City of Foley continues to outperform its budget from a tax perspective, having exceeded many budgeted tax revenues during or prior to May. The 2020-21 fiscal year began last year in October. City staff created a conservative budget due to the unknown lasting effects the COVID-19 pandemic would have on the economy. The Foley Sports Tourism calendar heats up this month with almost nonstop baseball and softball at the Foley Sports Complex and a range of sports at the Foley Event Center which will have the staff busily flipping the building to accommodate each new setup. City of Foley announces Independence Day schedule. In observance of the Fourth of July, the following city department schedules will be affected: Administrative offices, as well as all non-essential departments for the City of Foley will be closed on Monday, July 5, and reopen at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6. Foley’s city council will meet at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6 at Foley City Hall. Foley’s Public Works Department will be closed on Monday, July 4. Foley approves first reading of potential impact fee under consideration by council
The Foley council approved the first reading of an ordinance to potentially create impact fees for new developments in the City of Foley. A second reading will be held at an upcoming meeting and must be approved before impact fees will be implemented. During the May 17 council meeting, TischlerBise President Carson Bise presented findings of a recent impact fee study performed by his company within the City of Foley. Local artist leaves her mark in Foley
Local artist Jessica Kinsey recently received the opportunity of a lifetime: to leave her mark in Foley through her gift of art. Kinsey was commissioned to paint a poppy mural on the fence that runs alongside the Foley Art Center, and she did so with pride. “It’s been an absolute honor and privilege to have this opportunity to share my God-given talents and to just put my mark on the city of Foley like I have, and to be able to share that with others and brighten their day,” she said. Traffic lights synchronized on 59 in Foley, up next: 90, 98 and 45
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) wants drivers to spend less time at red lights. As part of a five-year project, ALDOT is synchronizing lights on all state routes across Alabama. “While all signals on state routes region-wide are a part of the program, US-45, US-90, US-98, and SR-59 in Mobile and Baldwin Counties will receive the updates first as those are the corridors where traffic volumes and congestion are the highest,” said ALDOT in its original statement on the project. Foley employees identify primary saferoom location
After deliberation and examination of approximately 13 sites within the City of Foley, city employees have determined the desired primary site for the future first responders saferoom. The primary site is located along Berry Avenue, between North Poplar Street and North Juniper Street. City staff must also identify a secondary site location prior to submitting the application to FEMA. The application is due by mid-July.
