FOLEY – With cold temperatures expected this weekend, a Safer Warming Center will open in Foley to provide shelter for individuals in need.

The Safer Warming Center will be located at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 506 N. Pine St., Foley, 36535. The center will open at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, and remain open until 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18. Hours may be extended if temperatures remain at or below freezing.

The center will operate in the Administration Building (not the Parish Hall). On-site signage will be posted to direct guests.

The National Weather Service in Mobile reports a small but increasing chance of a brief wintry mix or light snow as a cold front moves through the area. Light rain Saturday evening may transition to a wintry mix overnight. Little to no accumulation is expected at this time, though forecast confidence remains low and conditions may change.

Cots will be provided. Guests should bring their own bedding, including blankets and pillows, along with medications and any personal comfort items they may need.

  • Avoid travel if possible, especially on bridges and overpasses where icy conditions may develop.

  • Prepare your home with extra blankets, flashlights, and batteries. Use space heaters safely and keep them away from flammable materials.

  • Protect pipes by insulating exposed pipes and allowing faucets to drip during freezing temperatures.

  • Bring pets indoors to keep them safe and warm.
