The City of Foley is installing additional street lighting in growing areas of the community to improve visibility and safety.
The Foley City Council approved the installation of 13 new street lights at two locations across the city.
Eight street lights will be added along Cater Lee Way near the entrance to the Foley Sports Complex. City Engineer Taylor Davis said the work completes a multi-phase lighting plan for the street.
“This is the second phase of a project we did last year,” Davis said. “We installed four lights on existing poles west of Schumacher Road on Cater Lee Way. This phase extends the lighting east to Hickory Street.”
Five additional street lights will be installed on South Pecan Street between Lay Lane and East Michigan Avenue. Davis said the project responds to increased development and neighborhood requests in the area.
“We’ve seen a significant amount of growth over the last five years along this corridor,” Davis said. “This has been a request from some of the neighborhood residents.”
The South Pecan Street lights will be installed on existing poles and maintained by Baldwin Electric Membership Cooperative. The Cater Lee Way lights will be maintained by Riviera Utilities.
