FOLEY – Foley voters went to the polls Tuesday to select members of the City Council who will serve for the next four years.

Voters living in four of the five City Council districts cast ballots at the Foley Civic Center on Tuesday.

Complete but unofficial results following the closing of city polls were:

In District 1, incumbent Wayne Trawick defeated challenger Barry Hughes. Trawick 220 votes. Hughes received 95.

In District 2 challenger Timothy “Tim” Lower defeated incumbent Vera Quaites and fellow challenger Donald Barnett. Lower received 240 votes. Quaites received 166. Barnett received 8.

In District 4, Larry Engel defeated Phillip Hinesley. Engel received 98 votes.  Hinesley received 42. District 4 incumbent Rick Blackwell did not run for re-election.

In District 5, incumbent Charles Ebert III defeated challenger Derrick Perdue. Ebert received 234 votes. Perdue received 75.

Roddy Burkle was the only candidate remaining in the race for the District 3 seat and was elected without opposition. Incumbent District 3 Councilman Richard “Dick” Dayton died on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich was also unopposed in his bid for re-election to a second term.

The new terms for elected Foley officials begin on Nov. 3. The mayor and council members serve four-year terms. The Alabama Legislature extended the current term of office, which began in 2020 by one year so that city offices would not be up for election in the same year and other elected positions for state and county offices.

Council candidates run by district. Residents living in each city district vote for the council candidate running to represent that district.
