FOLEY – Downtown sidewalks are getting a fresh, clean look thanks to a continuing city beautification program.

Crews recently completed soft washing sidewalks along North and South Alston streets and along Laurel Avenue west of Alston Street during the evenings of Sept. 24 and 25. Work was scheduled after 8 p.m. to minimize disruptions for downtown businesses and pedestrians.

The cleaning is part of Foley’s ongoing effort to maintain a welcoming and vibrant downtown environment. Sidewalks near the Foley Welcome Center at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Alabama 59 have also been cleaned in recent weeks.

The project is a collaboration between the Foley Beautification and Revitalization Committee and Foley Main Street, which have worked together to plan and coordinate the cleaning schedule. Foley Main Street has also completed soft washing in several downtown areas.

Originally launched about three years ago, the program has been well received by downtown merchants, residents and visitors. The city now plans to maintain the sidewalks on an annual schedule to keep Foley’s historic downtown looking its best year-round.
