FOLEY – Children will have a chance to learn about butterflies and the efforts to protect these winged pollinators through a program being put on by the Foley Public Library and Riviera Utilities.
The library and Riviera will present an outdoor Story Time adventure in the Riviera Pollinator Garden on Wednesday, July 16, and Saturday, July 19. Families can meet in the Children’s Department at the Foley Public Library at 10 a.m. on either day before walking together to the garden at Riviera Utilities.
At the garden, children will discover the life cycle of monarch butterflies and learn how pollinator-friendly habitats help these winged visitors thrive. The event will feature stories, crafts, and outdoor play, along with tents, blankets, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and fans to keep everyone cool.
Snacks and refreshments will be available as families enjoy a fun-filled morning celebrating nature and creativity.
The Riviera Pollinator Garden began as a beautification project in 2023 and has since grown into a partnership focused on environmental stewardship and supporting research in the region. The garden is now a certified Monarch Waystation and participates in the Alabama Native Milkweed Project, which works to increase native milkweed and track monarch butterflies along the Gulf Coast.
Through partnerships with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Baldwin County Master Gardeners, the team continues efforts to introduce native milkweed in Foley and encourage pollinator-friendly gardening in the community.
