FOLEY – With spring in full swing, yard work and seasonal cleanup are creating higher-than-usual demand for Foley’s limb collection services.
The Foley Sanitation Department continues to collect tree limbs and yard debris from homes across the city on a weekly basis. However, due to the seasonal surge, some routes may experience brief delays—typically about one day.
“We’re doing our best to stay on schedule,” said Wynter Metz, Public Works administrator. “Right now, we have four trucks running citywide each week, and we plan to add a fifth truck in the next fiscal year to better serve our residents.”
To help maintain efficiency, residents are reminded of the following guidelines:
-
Weekly Limit: Each household may place up to six cubic yards of limbs and yard debris at the curb for pickup—roughly the size of a standard pickup truck bed.
-
Overflow Collection: If more than six cubic yards are placed out, the excess will be picked up the following week. For same-week removal of larger amounts, residents may contact Public Works to discuss additional collection fees.
-
Contractor Waste: Yard waste generated by commercial landscaping or tree services must be hauled away by the contractor and will not be collected by the city.
In addition to yard debris, the Sanitation Department continues weekly collection of recyclables, including cardboard, paper, plastic, and aluminum. Please note:
-
What Not to Recycle: Glass and yard waste should not be placed in blue recycling containers, as they cannot be processed at the Baldwin County Materials Recovery Facility.
-
Contaminated Bins: Bins containing non-recyclable materials will not be collected. Collection trucks are equipped with cameras, and if contaminants are seen during pickup, the bin will be left behind.
-
“If those items get into the truck, the entire load is rejected and must be dumped at the county landfill at a higher cost,” Metz explained.
-
-
Proper Container Use: Only recyclables placed inside the blue bin will be picked up. Items left outside the container will not be collected.
