The City of Foley has been recognized as one of the top places to live in Alabama, earning a spot on a newly released statewide list highlighting outstanding communities.
WorldAtlas recently included Foley in its “10 Best Places to Live in Alabama in 2026,” citing the city’s convenient location, quality of life and wide range of attractions.
According to the report, Foley’s location just inland from Alabama’s Gulf beaches provides residents with the benefits of coastal living while maintaining year-round practicality. The listing noted that the city’s mix of established neighborhoods, newer subdivisions and major retail areas makes it well-suited for everyday living. The report also highlighted Foley’s relative housing affordability compared to other nearby beach markets.
The list pointed to several local attractions that contribute to Foley’s appeal. Among them is the Foley Railroad Museum, located in the city’s historic 1909 L&N Railroad depot. The museum features exhibits on local transportation history and includes a popular model train display.
Also recognized was the Holmes Medical Museum, located at the intersection of Alabama 59 and U.S. 98. The museum preserves Baldwin County’s first hospital and has been restored to reflect its operation from 1936 to 1958.
Both museums are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission is free. The model train exhibit at the railroad museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Outdoor recreation was another highlight in the report, including Graham Creek Nature Preserve. The 660-acre site is Alabama’s largest municipal nature preserve and features wetlands, pine forests, hiking trails, kayaking opportunities, boardwalks and a disc golf course. The preserve also hosts events throughout the year, including seasonal activities and tournaments.
OWA Parks & Resort was also included among Foley’s attractions. The destination offers a mix of rides, dining, shopping and entertainment venues in one location.
In addition to Foley, the report recognized two other Baldwin County communities—Fairhope and Daphne—among the top cities in the state. Other cities on the list include Florence, Guntersville, Athens, Cullman, Enterprise, Fort Payne and Wetumpka.
The recognition highlights Foley’s continued growth and its reputation as a desirable place to live, work and visit.
