The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration named Foley a NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador.
Weather Ready Nation Ambassadors help their communities prepare for extreme weather, water and climate events. The effects of extreme weather, such as hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and other disasters can be reduced when communities are prepared to take action in advance.
The designation is a national distinction presented to organizations committed to strengthening community resilience through weather awareness and preparedness. Offices provide forecast information that supports emergency managers, first responders, government officials, businesses and the public make fast, smart decisions to save lives and property and enhance livelihoods.
Foley’s designation as a Weather Ready Nation Ambassador was officially approved by NOAA earlier this year. The Foley Department of Public Safety submitted the application on behalf of the city. The application reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to support community preparedness and share reliable weather information with residents, businesses and visitors.
As a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, Foley joins a nationwide network of partners working to improve readiness, communication, and safety before, during, and after severe weather events.
