A new four-way stop sign is now in place at the intersection of North Alston Street and West Peachtree Avenue.
The stop signs were installed early Wednesday morning, Jan. 14. Traffic on both streets is now required to stop at the intersection.
The Foley City Council approved the change in 2025 to improve traffic flow and safety in the area surrounding the Baldwin Health campus. Recent expansions at the hospital have led to increased traffic in the area, including the completion of a new main entrance and lobby earlier this year and the opening of a five-story patient tower in 2024.
The intersection is located within the Medical Overlay District established by the city in 2023. The district is designed to encourage the development of medical services in north Foley to meet the needs of a growing population.
To help alert drivers to the change, the city has placed warning flags on the new stop signs, including signs on West Peachtree Avenue. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be aware of the updated traffic pattern.
