FOLEY – Baldwin County legislators and the Better Business Bureau will present a fraud protection free event Wednesday morning, Jan. 24 in Foley.

The event, “Empower Yourself — Don’t be a victim of fraud,” will take place at the Foley City Council Chamber at Foley City Hall starting at 9 a.m. State House of Representatives members Donna Givens, Jennifer Fidler and Frances Holk-Jones are presenting the discussion.

Resources and contacts available at the event will include the AARP, Alabama Securities Commission, Area Agency on Aging, Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office, Better Business Bureau and law enforcement from the cities of Foley, Fairhope, Robertsdale and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. 

The event will include presentations on recognizing and avoiding fraud by local agency representatives. 

Monde Donaldson, vice president of the Better Business Bureau of Central and South Alabama will discuss senior scams.

Dorothy Dorton, associate state director of outreach for the Lower Alabama AARP will discuss veterans scams.

Nick Vonderau, education and public affairs manager for the Alabama Securities Commission will make a presentation on investment fraud, cryptocurrency and pig butchering.

Medicare scams will be the topic discussed by James Roberson, regional coordinator for the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission and Area Agency on Aging.
