Foley officials report that the effects of Hurricane Nate were minimal in Foley. According to Mayor John Koniar, the city dodged a bullet on this one. Fire Chief Joseph Darby reports the only storm-related incidents responded to were trees down in the roadway and one in a residence. “A tree down on N. Cedar caused a power outage for that area, but Riviera Utilities was able to clear the debris and restore power within a couple of hours. No residents were displaced due to damage, and there were no reports of flooding in residences or businesses. We did have some water over the roadways in areas that are prone to flooding but no incidents related to that. We certainly fared very well considering the potential,” according to Darby. Police Chief David Wilson reports that three potential tornadoes were tracked in the area during the night. As of Sunday morning, he reports Foley is back to regular business. The national weather service reports the area is in the clear with steadily improving conditions.
