FOLEY, AL – After a successful April, the Foley Sports Tourism (FST) team is finalizing preparations for several events scheduled during the month of May. Activities are set to begin again this weekend (May 12-13) with two events looking to keep the Foley Sports Tourism Complex and Event Center busy. Since opening in September, the FST Event Center will host its first basketball tournament, the Gulf Coast Showdown, May 12-13. Hosted by Stars Youth Basketball, the 6th annual tournament is preparing for approximately 80 teams from around the Southeast to compete. The Event Center will have six courts running simultaneously throughout the weekend.  “We are looking forward to a big weekend,” said Director of Stars Youth Basketball Association Coach Richard Robinson. “With the amount of courts available, plus with the number of teams participating, the competition should be fierce and fans should expect to watch some great basketball.” The tournament will be charging an admission fee to enter.  The 5th annual Big Wave Classic will host approximately 90 soccer teams from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana. The tournament will take place May 12-13 at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex (FSTC), and the team age groups will range from U8 – U16.  Zack Touchstone, with Snap Soccer, is excited about the weekend’s tournament.  “We’re encouraging the public to come and watch,” said Touchstone. “With 90 teams participating, we should see some great soccer all weekend.” The tournament will charge a $5 parking fee at the complex, however there is no fee to enter the event.  For more information on these tournaments or any other FST event, please contact Deputy Director, Don Dukemineer, by phone at (251) 923-2119, by email at ddukemineer@cityoffoley.org or visit our website at www.FoleySportsTourism.com.
