FOLEY – Foley is moving ahead with plans for a new city park in the recently annexed Mills Community.

The Foley City Council is scheduled to vote to implement plans for the new park.

The council work session and meeting will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Foley City Hall.

One of the items on the agenda is the approval of a master plan design for the park. Mills residents voted in August 2023 to allow their community to be annexed into Foley.

City plans for the community include a new park and additional sidewalks. Foley officials have been meeting with residents to discuss what features should be included in the park.

Other items on the City Council for Monday include:

  • A public hearing to declare weeds a public nuisance at order its abatement on property at Oakleigh Circle.
  • A public hearing to consider rezoning property owned by JBW Investments from B1A, Extended Business District, and PDD, Planned Development District, to PUD, Planned Unit Development.
  • A proclamation declaring Oct. 14 as Sister Cities International Day.
  • Approving a petition for annexation and bringing property owned by Club RV LLC into the Foley corporate limits.
  • Adopting zoning ordinance amendments for greenbelt zones.
  • Rescinding Ordinance 24-2020 and declaring certain real property surplus and no longer needed for municipal purposes and authorizing the sale of the property.
  • Rezoning property owned by JBW Investments from B1A, Extended Business District, and PDD, Planned Development District, to PUD, Planned Unit Development.
  • Correcting a deed to convey property to Baldwin County.
  • Approving a special events ABC license for the Burgers, Brats and Beer Fest to be held at 200 N. McKenzie St.
  • Sponsoring the 2024 Baldwin Heart Walk.
  • Purchasing a knuckleboom loader for the Sanitation Department.
  • Approving two ASL trucks for the Sanitation Department.
  • Purchasing a mainline inspection camera system for the Street Department.
  • Approving the purchase of a skid steer for the Street Department.
  • Deeming Police Department vehicles surplus.
  • Approving a United States Department of Agriculture cooperative agreement for beaver management.
  • Approving a lighting upgrade capital project for the Ralph Schumacher Soccer Complex.
  • Declaring Police Officer James “Mike” Powers’ badge and service weapon as surplus.
  • Declaring primary source vendors for the Foley Public Library.
  • Reappointing Charles Ebert III to the Public Athletic and Sports Facilities Cooperative District and to the Public Cultural and Entertainment Facilities Cooperative District.
  • Purchasing robot painters for the Sports Tourism and Parks and Recreation departments.
  • Amending the pay classification plan in the Public Works and Street departments.
  • Approving a retirement award.
  • Setting a public hearing to consider adopting an ordinance to amend the zoning ordinance for greenbelt zones.
  • Waiving the fees to minimum for a Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County new home project.
  • Accepting a Fiscal Year 2025 Gulf Coast Resources Conservation and Development Council grant.
  • Moving forward with capital purchases related to the Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grant.
  • Closing streets in Downtown Foley for the annual Hometown Halloween event Thursday, Oct. 24.
  • Appropriating funds for professional services from Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood for the Taylor Property Park.
  • Declaring weeds to be a public nuisance and ordering its abatement on a lot at Sute Farms Estates.
  • Approving GMC LLC’s professional services for the James Road extension project.
  • Appropriating additional funds for the first phase of the Cedar Street sidewalk project.
