FOLEY – Work on Miflin Road may affect traffic in upcoming weeks as crews make improvements to the route in south Foley.

Work is now underway to add turn lanes, curbs and other enhancements to improve safety and traffic flow along the busy commercial corridor between Alabama 59 and South Juniper Street.

Plans and preparations for the project have been going on for several years since the city adopted a management plan for the route. Work will include removing the median turn lane to improve the congestion on the commercial corridor.

Improvements will add a mid-block u-turn location within 1,000 feet of Alabama 59 to allow vehicles to cross the street.

The road includes many conflicting points and has a history of heavy traffic and accidents.

In developing the plan, officials worked with business operators in the area to discuss the project. Comments from the business operators were included in the project review.

While some lanes will be closed at times during construction, the road is scheduled to remain open. The project is expected to take three to four months to complete.

City plans call for improvements on the road to be completed before the start of the summer tourist season.

The city of Foley appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents, business owners, and motorists as these improvements are made to enhance safety and long-term mobility along Miflin Road.
