When Foley’s Public Library reopens in a new building Tuesday, Aug. 4, the new center will not just have twice the space of its former home, but will offer more services and activities in its expanded facility.
The new library will be about 40,000 square feet in size.
The expanded center includes a sensory room, separate children’s and teens’ activity areas. The facility will feature a special area for young readers, the Children’s Story Grove.
The new library building will include a sensory room, separate children’s and teens’ activity areas, a STEAM-STEM lab, a large multi-purpose room that seats 277, and more. The building will also feature a second-story porch that overlooks the Perry Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail and the city’s Dog Park.
The opening will begin at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting for the new facility, located at 230 E. Orange Ave.
Between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. visitors can explore their new library, participate in a scavenger hunt raffle and activities in each individual meeting space, and look over the many new features available in the center.
The Children’s Grand Opening will include pop-up story time and crafts at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in the new Children’s Story Grove. Children can also go to the Maker Meadow to take part in craft activities.
The library is also conducting a bookmark contest for children from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The winners will be announced the following week.
The former library building, next to City Hall on East Laurel Avenue, closed during the move to the new center. After the new library opens, the old building will be renovated for other municipal purposes.
