FOLEY – A striking metal wind sculpture will soon add an artistic touch to the newest section of Foley’s Antique Rose Trail.

Approved by the Foley City Council, the sculpture will be placed next to the city’s Post Office, just south of U.S. 98, along the Perry Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail. The project is funded by the Foley Revitalization and Beautification Board.

Standing 18 feet tall and 5 feet, 5 inches wide, the sculpture is designed by renowned artist Lyman Whitaker, known for his handcrafted wind sculptures built for durability, balance and resilience against high winds.

“These sculptures require little maintenance and are designed to last for decades,” said Brenda Shambo, city liaison to the board. “The addition will enhance the beauty of the Rose Trail’s newest section.”

Made from copper and steel, the sculpture will be installed in a landscaped circular area with shrubs. Designed to spin with even a gentle breeze of 2–3 miles per hour, it can withstand winds up to 90 miles per hour. In the event of a hurricane, it can be safely removed for protection.

Stay tuned for updates on the installation of this exciting new addition to Foley’s landscape!
