FOLEY, AL – Foley Sports Tourism (FST) is now a stop for high school soccer teams looking to capture the High School Cup. One way for teams to earn the cup is a strong showing in the 2018 Southern Coast Cup Presented by Adidas, taking place in Foley April 5 – 8. Tournament Co-Directors Van Harper and Zach Schrandt are fashioning the tournament after their highly successful Smoky Mountain Cup which takes place annually in Tennessee. The duo has 79 boys and girls teams registered from states across the nation, including Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and their home state of Tennessee. This gives high school teams the chance to compete against opponents they would not normally see. It also helps them get closer to capturing the High School Cup. “The Spring High School Cup will be awarded to the highest ranked team in the Topdrawersoccer.com Fab 50 that competed in the Smoky Mountain Cup or Southern Coast Cup,” Harper said. “The Cup will be displayed in the champion’s school until the next Spring Champion is crowned.” Harper said by adding the 2018 Southern Coast Cup Presented by Adidas, they’ve given schools the chance to choose how they want to go after the High School Cup. “We chose Foley for a number of reasons,” Harper continued. “From our first meeting, the staff has been incredible and facilities are top notch. The location is within close proximity to all of our participating schools and it allows us to offer two options to teams for spring break – either mountains or the beach.” Foley Sports Tourism Deputy Director Don Dukemineer said this tournament further spotlights Foley on a national stage. “We have teams from across the country coming to Foley,” Dukemineer said. “This is our chance to really show off our unique brand of hospitality and give these first-time visitors an incredible experience they won’t forget. They may come for the soccer and return for vacation down the road.” The competition is expected to be fierce and the public is welcome to come check it out. There will be a charge for admission. It’s $15 for a weekend pass, $10 for a day pass and children ages 5 and under are free.
