FOLEY – Construction will begin Monday, Sept. 15, on improvements to the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Hickory Street in southwest Foley.
As construction begins, the intersection will be closed from 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, while the first phase of work is completed. The project will be carried out in three phases and is scheduled for completion in spring 2026.
The Baldwin County Commission, which maintains the intersection, approved the $2.1 million project in August. Rob Middleton Construction submitted the lowest of nine bids for the work.
Upgrades will include new traffic signals and the addition of dedicated turn lanes in all four directions.
At this location, West Michigan Avenue is designated as Baldwin County 26.
The project is a joint effort between the City of Foley and Baldwin County. The Foley City Council approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Baldwin County Commission in which the city funded survey work and design plans, prepared by Thompson Engineering. Baldwin County is overseeing construction to ensure the project is built according to those plans.
