FOLEY – Modifications to the city Zoning Ordinance are among the items to be considered during the Foley City Council’s first meeting of 2025 on Monday, Jan. 6.

The council’s work session and meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Foley City Hall.

The zoning changes include construction criteria for new commercial development to ensure that office buildings are compatible with surrounding residential areas. The changes also include provisions that new residential development fits the character of the existing neighborhood.

Other items on the council agenda for the Jan. 6 meeting include:

  • A public hearing to consider adopting an ordinance to rezone property owned by Delaney Investments Inc./Springdale Stores from extended business district, B-1A, to planned unit development, PUD. The property is located south of Pastoral Lane and east of the Foley Beach Express.
  • A public hearing to consider adopting an ordinance to pre-zone property owned by Delaney Investments Inc./Springdale Stores to planned unit development, PUD. The property is located south of Pastoral Lane and east of the Foley Beach Express.
  • Declaring a parcel of property surplus and selling the site.
  • Setting policies and procedures for use at public parks in the city of Foley.
  • Rezoning property owned by Delaney Investments Inc./Springdale Stores from B-1A to PUD.
  • Pre-zoning property owned by Delaney Investments Inc./Springdale Stores from B-1A to PUD.
  • Granting a special events retail for beach events alcohol license for the Gumbo and Alabama Slammer Festival on Jan. 25. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 200 N. McKenzie St.
  • Granting retail beer and retail wine licenses for the Pizza Hut on South McKenzie St.
  • Amending the pay classification plan in general government.
  • Waiving fees for the use of Heritage Park and pavilion for the Alzheimer’s Awareness and Fundraising Walk.
  • Accepting a donation from the Friends of the Foley Public Library.
  • Declaring soccer field lights as surplus at the Ralph Schumacher Soccer Complex.
  • Reappointing Sharron Wineman to the Senior Center Advisory Board.
  • Setting a public hearing to consider amending the Zoning Ordinance.
  • Reappointing Mike McGowen to the Senior Center Advisory Board.
  • Reappointing Nedra Bell to the Foley Housing Authority Board.
  • Increasing the Foley Police Departmental budget to use $1,618.10 from the Restricted Local Drug Fund to purchase barricade covers.
  • Declaring a Fire Department enclosed trailer as surplus.
  • Approving participation in the Baldwin County Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan.
  • Memorializing the New Year’s fireworks show at OWA.
