FOLEY – The next step in improving drainage in the Beulah Heights community is one of the items on the agenda for the Foley City Council on Monday, June 17.

The council regular work session and meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

On the agenda is a resolution to allocate funds for the design of the Beulah Heights Drainage Project. The proposal would include videoing, vacuuming and jetting the drainage pipes flowing into the Michigan Avenue detention pond.

The area south of U.S. 98 and east of Juniper Street sometimes floods in heavy rains. Much of the community was developed before modern stormwater regulations were enacted.

Other items on the June 17 council agenda include:

  • Hearing department reports on taxes, permits and community development for May.
  • Granting a non-exclusive franchise to Southern Light LLC to construct and maintain fiber optic transmission lines on public rights of way.
  • Approving an agreement between the Baldwin County Commission, city of Foley and Foley Planning Commission concerning the exercise of subdivision regulations in the Foley planning jurisdiction.
  • Approving a lounge retail liquor license for events for Slappin Oaks on North OWA Boulevard.
  • Approving a restaurant retail liquor license for Superior Crab Seafood on South McKenzie Street.
  • Declaring fencing surplus at Aaronville Park.
  • Setting a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on property on West Michigan Avenue and ordering its abatement.
  • Setting a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on a common area of Live Oak Village and ordering its abatement.
  • Setting a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on property on South Cedar Street and ordering its abatement.
  • Setting a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on property on Elizabeth Place and ordering its abatement.
  • Setting a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on a conservation green space at the Village on Hickory Street and ordering its abatement.
  • Authorizing the mayor to sign two letters of intent for the Sanitation Department.
  • Approving bids for the month of May.
  • Appointing Pamela Monroe to the Housing Authority Board.
  • Waiving the fees for the use of Heritage Park and the pavilion for Adrian Hill and Golden Knight General Konstruction’s annual Alzheimer’s Remembrance Walk fundraiser.
  • Accepting the cost for weed abatement on a lot on East Laurel Avenue and authorizing that a letter be sent to the Baldwin County tax collector.
  • Approving the capital purchase of a K9 dual-purpose dog and declaring K9 Bronco as surplus.
  • Approving an amendment to the Airport Franchise and License Agreement.
  • Approving an estimate from Riviera Utilities for a light pole on East Verbena Avenue.
  • Appointing Chloe Salinas to the Foley Revitalization and Beautification Advisory Board.
