FOLEY – Voters will have an opportunity to hear directly from candidates running for Foley City Council in a public forum scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 14.
The forum will take place at 6 p.m. at the Foley Civic Center and is organized by the South Baldwin Common Sense Campaign. The event is open to the public and will provide candidates in contested races a platform to discuss their views and answer questions on key issues.
Each participating candidate will be given:

Three minutes for an opening statement

90 seconds to respond to each question

30 seconds for follow-up responses, if needed

90 seconds for a closing statement
To maintain a respectful and informative environment, audience members will be asked not to applaud or react during the forum.
Four of the five Foley City Council seats are being contested in the upcoming municipal election on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The following races are on the ballot:

District 1: Wayne Trawick (incumbent) vs. Barry Hughes

District 2: Vera Quaites (incumbent), Timothy “Tim” Lower, and Donald Barnett

District 4: Larry Engel vs. Phillip Hinesley (incumbent Rick Blackwell is not seeking re-election)

District 5: Charles Ebert III (incumbent) vs. Derrick Perdue
In District 3, Roddy Burkle is the sole candidate. Current council member Richard Dayton is not seeking re-election due to health reasons.
Mayor Ralph Hellmich is also running unopposed for re-election.

The mayor and council members elected in August will serve four-year terms.
