Foley will mark the city’s 45th Arbor Day on Saturday, Feb. 28, with a community celebration featuring free trees, horticultural advice and a tribute to two residents whose public service left a lasting impact.

The annual Foley Arbor Day celebration will begin at 1 p.m. at the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermen’s Market, located at 781 Farmers Market Way.

As part of the ceremony, the city will dedicate memorial trees in honor of City Councilman Richard “Dick” Dayton and Foley Marketing Director LaDonna Hinesley. Both devoted public servants passed away in 2025, and the memorials recognize their contributions to the Foley community.

During the event, the city will give away 720 trees planted in three-gallon containers. Each Foley resident may receive one tree while supplies last. Tree varieties include summer red maple, green giant arborvitae, live oak, crape myrtle, Nuttall oak and several types of magnolia.

Foley is recognized as a Tree City USA for its commitment to planting and maintaining trees throughout the community. Trees help reduce erosion, lower heating and cooling costs, produce oxygen, provide wildlife habitat and enhance the natural beauty of the city.

Riviera Utilities is a co-host of the event. The Alabama Forestry Commission, Baldwin County Master Gardeners and certified arborists will be on site to provide information and assistance. Members of Boy Scout Troop 77 will help distribute trees during the event.

In addition, winning entries from the Arbor Day Poster Contest will be on display, and the Foley High School Air Force Junior ROTC will present the colors.

The event is free and open to the public.
