Like the last few months, May has a number of events on the docket, but the highlight will be the 2022 USA Gymnastics Region 8 Xcel Championships May 6 – 8. While FST has hosted a number of gymnastics events, this will be the first time the Championships have been hosted in the state of Alabama since their inception in 2008. The competition is estimated to draw 1,500 competitors and their families to the area from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
While the gymnasts take over the Foley Event Center, the FST Fields will also be packed that weekend for the Big Wave Classic. The annual club soccer event draws boy and girls club teams from around the southeast region.
Volleyball will return May 21 – 22 for the AAU Alabama Grand Prix, drawing girls club teams vying for the chance to earn a spot at the AAU National Championships.
As spring wraps up and summer kicks off, the Stars and Stripes Classic will bring boys and girls club basketball players to the Foley Event Center May 27 – 29.
