Foley starting Mills sidewalk project

Work will soon begin on new walkways designed to connect the Mills Community in west Foley with other areas of the city. The Foley City Council recently voted to seek bids for construction of a sidewalk that will link the future Mills community park with existing city walkways and nearby neighborhoods. Foley City Council to meet Monday

The Foley City Council will hold its regular work session and meeting Monday, May 18. The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in the council chambers at Foley City Hall. Among the items on the agenda are:  Department reports for April, including Planning and Zoning, Police, Building, tax and permits, Human Resources and Fire. Safe Room concrete pour planned

Construction crews working on the Foley First Responder Safe Room are preparing for a major concrete pour expected to take place during the week of May 18–22. The pour is tentatively scheduled for either Wednesday, May 20, or Thursday, May 21, depending on concrete availability and weather conditions. To help reduce traffic impacts near the construction site at the intersection of North Poplar Street and East Berry Avenue, work will begin during overnight and early morning hours. Foley recognizes Teachers of Year

Foley honored local educators and school supporters for their work to improve education in the city and across Baldwin County. During a recent meeting, the Foley City Council recognized public school educators from the Foley feeder pattern who were selected as Teachers of the Year for their schools. The teachers were also presented with state resolutions signed by Gov. Kay Ivey. The resolutions were sponsored by State Rep. Frances Holk-Jones. Foley moving ahead with first responder safe room

As construction continues on Foley’s first responder safe room, the city and Baldwin County are working together to prepare the site to support emergency personnel during hurricanes and other severe events. The Foley City Council recently approved an easement extension that will help provide utility access to the site at the intersection of East Berry Avenue and North Poplar Street, where the facility is currently under construction. Foley receives funding to support new library

As construction continues on the new Foley Public Library, the facility is receiving additional funding from outside sources that will expand services and technology available to the community. The new library is under construction on East Orange Avenue south of U.S. 98 and is scheduled for completion later this year. The two-story facility will feature more than 40,000 square feet of space, nearly doubling the size of the current library building, which opened in 1984. Foley moves forward with city wetland preserve

A new wetland preserve designed to highlight stream restoration and environmental recovery is expected to open to the public within the next year. Work continues at the Andrew James Wetland Preserve, located near the headwaters of the Bon Secour River. The Foley City Council recently approved construction of an access road that will allow visitors to reach the site once the project is complete. Foley event to welcome back monarch butterflies

The City of Foley is welcoming monarch butterflies back to the Alabama Gulf Coast with a special community event in May and continued plans for a future monarch conservatory. Foley, in partnership with Riviera Utilities, will host the inaugural Welcome Back Monarchs celebration on Saturday, May 9, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Foley Civic Center. Foley plans improvements at farmers market, soccer fields

The City of Foley is moving forward with plans to enhance amenities at the Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermens Market (CAFFM) and the city’s Sports Tourism facilities, including the addition of a new commercial kitchen and permanent restrooms.
