The Foley Public Library is preparing to move into its new home later this summer, bringing expanded services, modern amenities and nearly twice the space of the current facility.
To facilitate the move, the library’s current location at 319 E. Laurel Ave. will be closed from July 13 through Aug. 3. During that time, library staff will relocate collections, equipment and services to the new library building at 230 E. Orange Ave.
While the library is closed, patrons may continue returning borrowed materials using the book drop at the current Laurel Avenue location.
The Foley Public Library catalog will be temporarily unavailable for Foley materials during the move. However, the Baldwin County library catalog will remain available for materials from other county libraries, and patrons may select another county location for item pickup. Digital library services will remain accessible throughout the transition.
The new library will provide approximately 40,000 square feet of space, offering expanded opportunities for learning, programs and community activities. Planned features include a sensory room, dedicated activity areas for children and teens, a STEAM/STEM lab and spaces designed for special-needs programming.
A large multi-purpose room with seating for 277 people will provide space for community events, educational programs and presentations.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a second-story porch overlooking the Perry Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail and the city’s Dog Park.
Following the opening of the new library, the current building will be renovated for future municipal use.
Additional details regarding the opening of the new facility and available services will be announced as the move progresses.
