Construction crews working on the Foley First Responder Safe Room are preparing for a major concrete pour expected to take place during the week of May 18–22.
The pour is tentatively scheduled for either Wednesday, May 20, or Thursday, May 21, depending on concrete availability and weather conditions. To help reduce traffic impacts near the construction site at the intersection of North Poplar Street and East Berry Avenue, work will begin during overnight and early morning hours.
Mobilization for the project could begin around midnight, with the concrete pour expected to start between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Residents in the area may notice additional lighting, equipment activity and noise while work is underway.
The pour is expected to take about four hours to complete.
Motorists can also expect increased construction truck traffic in the area during the operation. Construction vehicles will use North Poplar Street while work is taking place. No road closures are currently planned.
Construction on the Safe Room began in February 2026 and is expected to be completed in 2027.
The facility will provide a secure location for Foley firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel to shelter during hurricanes and other severe weather events. When not being used during emergencies, the building will also serve as a training center for first responders.
The Safe Room is designed to accommodate more than 200 people during a hurricane and will be built to withstand winds up to 200 miles per hour. The facility will also include kitchen facilities and other resources needed to support emergency personnel during extended operations.
