There was a lot of interest from the public about the unique Navy Aircraft that practiced at the Foley Airport last Sunday. It was a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, known as a tiltrotor aircraft. This is a combination helicoptor/airplane which combines the best characteristics of both. It is capable of vertical take-off and landing.
Mayor Ralph Hellmich said, “our City was treated last weekend to a visit by a unique navy aircraft. A V-22 Osprey Tiltrotor aircraft conducted practice at the airport. It is a combination helicopter/fixed wing aircraft that gives the military an edge protecting our country.
Foley has historically been involved in helping defend our country when Navy/Marine pilots began their careers learning to fly in our area. And now, more recently, via our support of the new National Guard Super Armory, which just opened.  We should be proud of the part we play in our nation’s defense, even if it causes us some inconvenience.”
