More than four miles of Foley streets are scheduled for resurfacing during the coming year under the city’s annual road improvement program approved by the Foley City Council.
The council authorized the city to seek bids to resurface 4.76 lane miles of streets as part of the 2026-2027 paving program. The city will also request bids for an additional 1.54 lane miles of resurfacing as an alternate project if funding is available.
Among the streets included in the primary resurfacing program are Lakeview Drive from Carnoustie Drive to Baldwin County 12 and West Peachtree Avenue from North Cedar Street to Alabama 59.
An alley between West Orange Avenue and West Myrtle Avenue is included as an alternate project. The proposed resurfacing would extend from South Pine Street to South Alston Street if additional funding allows.
Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the city is also expanding its approach to evaluating transportation infrastructure by developing a system to assess the condition of alleys in addition to streets.
“We want the alleys to be part of this,” Hellmich said. “We’re looking at multiple alleys all over the city. Some of them are in worse condition than others. We will be creating this alley grading system as a subset.”
Foley currently evaluates the condition of city streets to help prioritize paving projects. Adding an alley assessment program will provide city officials with more information as they plan future maintenance and resurfacing efforts.
