FOLEY – The Foley City Council will recognize two downtown businesses for beautification efforts Monday.
The council is scheduled to present beautification awards at their regular work session and meeting Monday, Aug. 7 at Foley City Hall.
The old Foley Hotel building will receive one award. The building, which was constructed in 1927, was the site of a hotel until 1970. Today, businesses operating at the site at the southeast corner of South Alston Street and East Laurel Avenue include the Old Time Stacey’s Soda Fountain.
The Foley Hotel building is owned by Frances Holk-Jones.
Hollis Interior and Design is also being recognized. The business is located at 200 South McKenzie Street. Caroline Hollis is scheduled to receive the award.
The council is also scheduled to hold five public hearings at the Monday meeting.
- The council will consider rezoning property owned by Tyler Higginbotham from B-3, local business district, to R-1R, residential single family.
- A public hearing is scheduled on the rezoning of property owned by Next to Last LLC from B-3, local business district, and RV, recreational vehicle park, to RV, recreational vehicle park.
- A public hearing is scheduled to amend the zoning ordinance to create a medical overlay district in north Foley near the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.
- A public hearing is scheduled to consider rezoning property owned by Old Town II, LLC from B-2, neighborhood business district, to R-1C, residential single family.
- A public hearing is scheduled to consider rezoning property owned by Foley Professional Park Developer Inc. from R-1A, residential single family; B-1A, extended business district, and M-1, light industrial district, to PO, preferred office district.
Other items on the Monday agenda include:
- The Foley Education Advisory Committee will present a report on school enrollment patterns in the Foley school attendance area.
- A presentation by Evergreen Solutions on the report on the city’s Compensation and Pay Classification Plan Study.
- Hold a first reading of an ordinance to change zoning regulations and create a Planned Development District.
- The first reading of an ordinance to rezone property from AO, agricultural open space, to B1A, extended business district.
- The first reading of an ordinance rezoning property that includes a common area of Sherwood subdivision from B2, neighborhood business district, to R1C, residential single family.
- An ordinance setting policies for the use of the Sara Thompson Kids Park.
- An ordinance rezoning property owned by Tyler Higginbotham from B-3, local business district, to R-1R, residential single family.
- An ordinance rezoning of property owned by Next to Last LLC from B-3, local business district, and RV, recreational vehicle park, to RV, recreational vehicle park.

- Approve the sidewalk project on Pride Boulevard Sidewalk project at a cost of $147,200.
- Set a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on property on East Myrtle Avenue and ordering its abatement.
- Adopt a new pay classification for the city of Foley.
- Appropriate funds for the costs of the Mills Community annexation referendum.
- Authorize an economic development agreement with Blackwater Real Estate.
- Set a public hearing on an ordinance to amend the zoning ordinance to create a planned development district.
- Amend the “Foley Beach Express Agreement,” between Foley, Baldwin County and the Baldwin County Bridge Company to allow the construction of a northbound left-turn median south of Baldwin County 20.
- Approve a proposal from Gonzalez-Strength for the design of a public road near the corner of Foley Beach Express and Miflin Road.
- Accept Sawgrass Consulting’s Proposal for professional services for the Fiscal Year 2023 resurfacing project and grant approval to solicit bids.
- Authorize advertising, soliciting bids and appropriate funding for the South Juniper Street to Foley Event Center sidewalk project.
- Approve the Wolf Creek Park amenity restroom project.
- Approve reimbursement for the Municipal Lawl Conference.
- Approve the purchase of a 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 for the Sanitation Department.
- Accept a donation from the Friends of the Library.
- Authorize the Foley Crossroads Project user fee agreement between the city of Foley and the Foley Public Facilities Cooperative District.
- Set a public hearing to rezone property owned by Gary Underwood.
- Set a public hearing to rezone property owned by the city of Foley.
